Christian Kogel
Christian Kögel is a native of lovely southern Bavaria. He began to study classical guitar at the age of ten. Kögel moved to Berlin in 1990 and founded his own trio , that won several jazz-competitions in Germany. He continued studying classical guitar at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin (1990-1994) and begun studying at the jazzdepartment of the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin with David Friedman, Jerry Granelli, a.o. (1991-1996), where he received a bachelor for the arts and education in 1996. From 1998 - 2000 Kögel studied oud and traditional arabic music with the syrian master Farhan Sabbagh. Christian Kögel is member of several bands in Germany (flexkögel, Michael Schiefel..s gay, Marc Muellbauers Kaleidoscope, Paul-Brodys Sadawi, Nasser Kilada & Ranin, Zabriskie Point a.o.) as well as international bands like Jerry Granelli..s V16 Project, Basie and the Beach Boys and the Jerry Granelli Septet, with whom he performed at several Jazz Festivals. Last years main CD-release was with his own band flexkögel („Wilde Gezeiten“, minormusic 2008).This year..s CD-releases are going to be with a new Theremin-song-project w. Andreas Schmidt on piano, Barbara Buchholz on theremin and Britta-Ann Flechsenhar on vocals, with Marc Muellbauers Kaleidoscope and a CD and DVD with Granelli..s V-16 Project in Canada. A new acoustic project with clarinet, trombone and me playing dobro/oud is coming along. Christian Kögel teaches jazz-guitar in Berlin and is member of the teaching staff of several international Jazz-Workshops like the Creative Music Workshop in Halifax and Giant Steps in Berlin.
